What is a good size for a haversack? | Bushcraft USA Forums
Oct 5, 2023 · According to Varusteleka, a Finnish gas mask bag (which is a popular bag for a haversack) is approx. 12" x 10" x 4". This is what I use and I find it plenty big for a day hike, quick scout, etc. I use a flat water bottle with it and carry it in the bag. Still plenty of room for some snacks, small fire kit, etc.

A small rectangular canvas backpack can be modded to carry as a haversack - think of the small Japanese made backpacks from the 1960s or 1970s, or the small Italian Mountain Rucksack carried as a haversack (again, have to perform an easy mod with a strap).

If you have access to bedding, food and water you really don’t need a big pack. You could use a day pack or sling bag to do the same thing. Let’s say your day’s adventure is photography.

As a medic kit that will be put down on the ground and opened next to the patient I can see the functionality. The compartments for organizing first aid supplies would be great.

Mar 17, 2021 · Visited Helikon Tex US store and they only show the Bushcraft Satchel. Can't find a haversack on the sight. They have an "Urban Courier Bag Medium" that resembles a messenger bag. I need another bag like I need another knife. Oh wait. lol. I really like the Bushcraft Satchel especially for the $54.90 price tag.
